Two Biddenden wines have been awarded medals at this year’s Decanter World Wine Awards, announced today – Silver for Biddenden Gamay Noir 2020 and Bronze for Gribble Bridge Sparkling Rosé 2017.
The world’s largest wine competition saw its biggest year to date, with 18,094 wines tasted from 56 countries. Judges’ feedback for Biddenden Gamay Noir 2020 included “Charming blackcurrant and violet aromatics with a hint of pepper. Juicy style with lively blackcurrant and sweet blueberry flavours. Crisp finish”, with the wine scoring 93, just 5 points off the top score in the whole competition.
Gribble Bridge Sparkling Rosé 2017 was described as being “Fresh and crisp with palma violet aromatics, big red fruit flavours and refreshing acidity.” scoring 89.
Tom Barnes, General Manager, commented “We are delighted to have had two wines recognised in this year’s Decanter World Wine Awards. Our Gamay Noir always proves popular as a still red wine, and so to have this backed up on a world stage really goes to prove that it is possible to produce top quality red wines in a British climate.” He continues “We are always looking at ways to create innovative, interesting wines, whilst staying true to our roots as a family of winemakers now in our third generation. By combining traditional methods, being in touch with what is happening in the vineyard year round and keeping up to date with modern techniques, we are able to produce a range of quality still & sparkling wines. To have this cemented by one of the world’s leading awards is extremely gratifying.”
Both award-winning wines are available to purchase direct from Biddenden’s Vineyard Shop, online for nationwide home delivery and from selected independent stockists.
