We were once again delighted to take part in Visit Kent’s annual Big Weekend, which took place on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd April. This year to make the Big Weekend extra special for the lucky ticket winners we teamed up with local cheese producers, The Cheesemakers of Canterbury, to offer an exclusive wine, cider, juice and cheese pairing and tasting session.
After touring the vineyard and winery, learning a bit about our history and how we produce our award-winning drinks, Visit Kent’s Big Weekenders were able to try Ortega, Gribble Bridge Rosé, Gribble Bridge Sparkling White, Special Reserve and Biddenden Apple juice alongside cheeses including Chaucer’s, Canterbury Cobble, Smoked Ashmore and Ellie’s Herb (goat’s cheese) from Cheesemakers of Canterbury as well as Kentish Blue, from Kingcott Dairy.
Over 140 people attended on the four tour and tasting sessions, which were spread over two days with ticket winners being encouraged to document their visit with a series of selfies shared across social media.
Now in its eleventh annual year Visit Kent’s Big Weekend aims to encourage Kent residents to visit more local attraction on their doorstep, with ticket winners selected from an online draw which is only open to residents with certain post codes.
Julian Barnes, Managing Director at Biddenden, said: “We are always keen to support Visit Kent as we are very lucky in Kent to have such a varied tourism offering. It is just as important for Kent residents to go out and explore what’s on their doorstep as much as it is for visitors from further afield.”
We would like to thank Cheesemakers of Canterbury for their support and for providing samples for the tasting session. Our vineyard shop stocks a range of local cheeses, including the full range on tasting during Big Weekend.
