Vineyard Expands with New Plantings

Planting of additional Bacchus & Reichensteiner vines has taken place this week at Biddenden.  Reichensteiner is used in the production of sparkling wine and Bacchus as a single varietal aromatic white wine and the new plantings will allow an increase in production capacity for both.

The vines, which were collected & brought over direct from the nursery in Germany, have been planted to form three new vineyards, two at the top of the existing vineyards and one alongside the vineyards across the lane – all may be seen when taking the red marked vineyard walk.

The new vineyards were marked out using a GPS system supplied by NP Seymour and operated by SJ Barnes Limited and each vine was planted by hand by the Biddenden team.

These vines will take approximately 3-5 years to establish, before a harvest will be taken to use in production.

The vineyard is open to visitors daily, with charity tours running every Wednesday until the end of September and every Saturday throughout the year, giving an excellent opportunity to learn more about Biddenden’s history & growing techniques.
