Saturday 25th May sees the start of English Wine Week, a celebration of all things English wine! We’ll be picking out one wine every day as our wine of the day.
To start the week off, we’ve chosen our signature wine, Biddenden Ortega, for which we are most well known. Made using 100% Ortega, all of which are grown here on the estate and the variety which makes up approximately 50% of our plantings. A cross between Müller Thurgau x Siegerrebe, this variety is named after the Spanish poet José Ortega y Gasset.
Biddenden Ortega is an off dry, fruity wine, displaying fresh aromas of apple & grapefruit. Semi-aromatic on the nose, whilst the palate is medium bodied, crisp, characterful and deliciously fruity. Delicious when served as an aperitif, this refreshing white would also pair well with lightly spicy dishes and simple seafood.
